One Word...

I used to LOVE making resolutions! Every year I was steadfast at reaching the one or two goals I set for myself only to feel like a failure around January 20th.

A few years ago, a colleague of mine gave me a book to read titled, "One Word that will change your life." by, John Gordon.  I am amazed at what it has done for me.

This year, my word is DISCOVER.  I want to discover new hobbies, new recipes and discover new friendships.  I am proud to say that on this 21st day in January, I have accomplished all three!  I am looking forward to what this word does for me the rest of the year.

I wanted to give this a try in my classroom with my students and see how receptive they were.  They took it hook, line and sinker.
We watched the video together and brainstormed some One Word ideas.

Students were excited to share with me how their One Word was going to come to life.  Students had to share with me three ways in which the word will change their lives.  Students wrote a paper to solidify their plan.  The book also shares ideas on how to make the word a part of your day, so we did it.  We put the word on our lockers, made it our screen savers and posted them in our room.
